A Santa Cruise on the Anderton Boat Lift
If you are hoping to combine a love of Christmas with the canals this year, then you should head straight for the Anderton Boat Lift in Northwich. This is where you can take seasonal Santa Cruises aboard the Edwin Clark trip boat every weekend in December. The Edwin Clark leaves from the boat lift and heads along the River Weaver Navigation. On board, passengers are treated to storytelling, Christmas songs, refreshments and a present for each child. It’s also a good chance to visit the boat lift itself, which is one of Canal & River Trust’s chief engineering wonders.

Magical grottos and Christmas concerts at Ellesmere Port
Elsewhere in your area, the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port is offering children the chance to meet Santa in his grotto every weekend from 7 December until Christmas Eve. There will be a magical grotto, elves and refreshment plus the chance to say hello to the authentic, canal-loving Father Christmas.

The museum also hosts a very special Christmas Concert on 14 December. This will see a performance from the Wirral Singers and Ringers who will deliver a selection of your favourite Christmas songs. Light refreshments will also be on offer.

Take a wintery trip over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
Another special trip can be enjoyed on the Llangollen Canal, where there will be Christmas cruises along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct with mulled wine and mince pies.

There are more Christmas cruises on offer from Skipton Boat Trips, who operate on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Skipton. There are Magical Santa Trips aboard Cobbydale or a Christmas Dinner Cruise, promising roast turkey, crackers and carols.

On the weekend of 12/13 December the company also offers a three-hour Christmas Gin & Fizz Cruise, which includes four gin tastings hosed by a local distiller.

Elsewhere, Kingfisher Cruises operate on the Lancaster Canal, and they are running a number of Santa Special Cruises from Barton Range over Christmas weekends in December.

And a ‘fab’ Christmas market…
Meanwhile, the FAB market will be held in and around the transhipment warehouse and Whaley Bridge Canal Basin. Come along to do your Christmas shopping, while a folk singer and local ukulele band provide the entertainment.
