Tales of a canalside carpenter

Join us as we share a pot of tea with Derek Keller, a retired carpenter who has collected a wealth of waterway tales over his years working on our canals

Retired carpenter Derek Keller worked on our waterways in the years before the Canal & River Trust took over their guardianship. Now a Friend of the Trust, whose passion for the heritage and wildlife of our waterways began in the 1980s, Derek has a boatload of extraordinary stories to share from chance encounters with famous faces and memorable conversations with characterful bargees and lock keepers, to the more unusual ways our canals were used in the past. Finally, our resident gongoozler John Shuttleworth joins us for another mischievous waterway fact.

Waterfront podcast celebrates the work of the Canal & River Trust, explores the stories behind some of our iconic stretches of water and meets fascinating people who live, work and play beside our waterways. Subscribe to Waterfront on iTunes so you don’t miss the next episode.
